What to Do About Social Media Overload
LinkedIn. MySpace. Facebook. YouTube. Twitter. Digg. del.icio.us.
And the list goes on. With so many options available today, it’s easy to experience social media overload. There are only so many hours in the day and unless you have a staff devoted to social media marketing few professionals have the time to read and post all day. How to handle the overload and still make your social networking/social media investment pay off? Here’s my advice:
Be choosy. You don’t have to participate actively on every available site. Pick a few sites that best match your goals and your target audience and invest your time there. Don’t feel guilty if you don’t have a presence on MySpace or Digg just because “everybody” else does. Get focused and get results.
Social Networking Tip of the Day: Don’t Accept Every Invitation to Connect
Ask yourself: Would I want to connect with this person in the real world? If not, then it might not be worthwhile to connect with the person online. Being choosy can pay off with a more solid collection of contacts.
Social Networking and The New York Times
Mequoda Daily ran an interesting blog post a few weeks ago about the connection between The New York Times’ 82 percent spike in web traffic and their presence on numerous social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, and other social sites.
Although social networking ROI is hard to calculate, the NYT was clearly doing something right to generate that kind of traffic increase.
